About FacetNation.

FacetNation is a small business, formed in 2009, by jewellery designer & maker Amy Lee Hubbard.

Amy studied art & photography at A level, and then went on to train in metalwork & jewellery at the Surrey Institute of  Art & Design Farnham. She graduated in 2007 with a BA Hons in Three Dimensional Design, Metalwork & Jewellery.  Amy also likes to attend regular classes as a student to continue her professional development, and gained an A grade in Gemmology with the Gemmological Association of Great Britain in June 2011.

Amy did a short work experience placement with Amy Anderson of Comfort Station London whilst at university, then went on to manage a concession for Fossil UK before being appointed Head of Workshop for Westwood Rocks Ltd.

Currently Amy is employed by S.E.Riordan Jewellers in Fleet Hampshire, also teaches a popular silver jewellery making course at The West End Centre in Aldershot, Hampshire, and occasionally for Guildford Adult Learning Centre, and is a committee member of the Harvey Gallery in Guildford - all alongside designing & making jewellery for FacetNation.

All designs are unique creations, made completely by hand from start to finish by Amy at her home workshop in Surrey.  Commissions are welcome, and ready - made items are available to buy direct from the online shop, or from various craft events & galleries across the UK.

'High Tea'

This collection is inspired by a love of all things vintage.  It has featured in Platform Gallerys new year 2011 showcase and Vogue magazine, as well as in Vintage Life Magazine.

Etched into each piece of silver is the ornate pattern from a paper doily.  The nature of acid etching can produce a wide variation of results, and I have mixed delicate & precise etches with deep eroded etches to give the effect of something which looks both modern & antique.  Oxidisation adds the dark contrast between the etched pattern & highly polished silver.

I combined the silver elements with large baroque freshwater pearls, in classic white.  Pearls are timeless & feminine, and add elegance to the pieces.

The High Tea collection comprises of earrings, pendants, necklaces & rings, and soon to be added are bracelets.  More images are in the Gallery.

 'Amulet'.

'Amulet' is a series of pieces I keep coming back to & keep exploring, as an extension of a project I set myself whilst on my degree course.

The Amulet collection evolved from 'holding jewellery' - a research project which looked at finding different ways of capturing objects in something wearable.  I chose to capture gemstones, especially rough samples, as gemmology is a passion of mine.

The rough & sometimes cut stones I use are held within silver domes using resin & claws.  I like to use resin to allow light to pass through to the stones, and for its wet, water like quality.

The collection is a series of pendants & rings.  More images are in the Gallery.
